Breaking: Senate gets new Minority Leader, Whip

Senator Philip Tenimu Aduda (FCT) has been named as the new Minority Leader of the Senate. Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, made the announcement in a letter he read during the plenary on Tuesday. The letter was signed by the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Samuel Anyanwu. Lawan also announced Senator Chukwuka Utazi as the Senate Minority Whip. The seat of the Minority Leader became vacant following the defection of Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (Abia South) from the PDP.

The Federal High Court in Abuja has stopped the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from ending voter registration on June 30, 2022. Honourable Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon (Court 10) on Monday granted an order of interim injunction following the hearing of an argument on motion exparte by Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP). Kaduna State Govt sacks 2,357 teachers

The Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (KADSUBEB) says it has dismissed 2,357 teachers who failed the recently conducted competency test. Its spokesperson, Mrs Hauwa Mohammed, in a statement on Sunday in Kaduna, said the Board conducted a competency test for over 30,000 teachers in Dec. 2021. She said that 2,192 primary school teachers including the National President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Mr Audu Amba, had been dismissed for refusing to sit for the competency test.
