A prominent APC Chieftain in Abia State, Chief Chidiebere J. Okoh, has advised Igbo youths to shift their focus from popularity contests among politicians to advocating for a better future for the nation. Chief Okoh made this call while reacting to the Ohanaeze Youth Council’s (OYC) recent criticism of former Abia State Governor, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.
Chief Okoh described the OYC’s attack on Senator Kalu as unfortunate and insensitive, coming from youths who should be prioritizing the promotion of development and progress in their communities. He insisted that if the Igbo nation truly understood Senator Kalu’s value to Southeast Nigeria politics, they would hold him in very high esteem.

According to Chief Okoh, instead of engaging in fruitless comparisons and criticisms like cash and carry boys in politics, Igbo youths should focus on supporting visionary leaders with track records of delivering results. He emphasized that Senator Kalu is one such leader who has consistently demonstrated his commitment to the progress of the nation.
Chief Okoh further urged youths to prioritize empowerment initiatives, skill acquisition, and job creation over political bickering. He stressed that unity and collaboration among Igbo youths are crucial for driving positive change in Nigeria.
The APC Chieftain also called on youths to evaluate leaders based on their achievements, contributions, and commitment to the nation’s progress. He believes that by doing so, they will recognize Senator Kalu’s immense value to the Southeast and Nigeria as a whole.
Chief Okoh’s statement comes amidst the OYC’s criticism of Senator Kalu, who had claimed to be the most important politician in the South-East, citing his past electoral and administrative records. The OYC had questioned Kalu’s decision to compare himself to former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, stating that Kalu cannot rival Obi’s level of political influence, acceptability, and popularity.
As the nation approaches another election cycle, Chief Okoh’s call to Igbo youths serves as a reminder of the importance of focusing on development and progress over fleeting popularity contests. By prioritizing the empowerment of youths, promoting unity, and supporting visionary leaders, Nigeria can take significant strides towards a brighter future.
