Emetu Pledges Abia Government’s Support For Aba Promises Kept Carnival And Music Fiesta

…Accepts appointment as patron, commends organisers for promoting youth talent, cultural heritage and social development.

The Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, FNSE, has pledged the support of the state government for the second edition of the Aba Promises Kept Carnival and Music Fiesta, scheduled to hold from December 11 to 13, 2026, at the Abia State Polytechnic Main Campus Field, Aba.

Emetu made the pledge yesterday, when he received a delegation of the Promises Kept Socio-Cultural Initiative, led by its founder and convener, Chief Onyeka Ernest Udeajah, during a courtesy visit to his office at Government House, Umuahia.

The Deputy Governor, who accepted his nomination as one of the patrons of the organisation, commended the initiative for providing opportunities for young people, particularly emerging musicians, artisans and other talented individuals, to showcase their abilities, gain recognition and develop their potential.

He described the carnival as a worthwhile platform for youth engagement and talent discovery, noting that many gifted young people only need the right opportunities and encouragement to make meaningful contributions to society.

“An initiative that creates opportunities for our young people to discover, develop and showcase their talents is highly commendable. Beyond entertainment, this carnival provides a positive platform for youth engagement, cultural expression and the promotion of our collective heritage. It is something that deserves encouragement and support,” Emetu said.

He further observed that the three-day event would provide residents with an opportunity to unwind, relieve the stress of daily activities and celebrate their rich cultural identity, particularly during the festive season.

Emetu congratulated the organisers on sustaining the initiative and assured them of the state government’s support towards the successful hosting of the second edition. He expressed optimism that the programme would strengthen cultural unity, encourage social interaction and stimulate economic activities in Aba and its environs.

Reflecting on the changing atmosphere in Abia State, the Deputy Governor noted that the present administration had created an environment that encourages citizens to express their views, engage with government and participate actively in the development of the state.

He expressed his anticipation for the carnival, which has the theme, “Uniting Heritage, Celebrating Progress,” and wished the organisers and participants a successful and hitch-free event.

“I am particularly pleased that initiatives such as this are emerging to bring our people together, showcase our cultural heritage and create opportunities for our youths. The government is committed to building a society where talent is encouraged, enterprise is supported and everyone has an opportunity to contribute to our collective progress,” he added.

Earlier, the founder and convener of the Promises Kept Socio-Cultural Initiative, Chief Onyeka Ernest Udeajah, said the delegation visited the Deputy Governor to formally inform him about the forthcoming second edition of the carnival and invite him to participate as a distinguished guest.

Udeajah explained that the initiative was established to engage young people positively, discourage street idleness and provide platforms for upcoming artistes, artisans and other talented individuals to showcase their skills and abilities.

He disclosed that the three-day programme would feature talent hunts, cultural displays, parades and musical performances by established and emerging entertainers. He added that the event was expected to attract more than 50,000 participants, including youth groups, cultural troupes, business leaders and other stakeholders.

He also announced that popular musical artistes, including Duncan Mighty, Ugoccie and Ada Zion, would perform alongside local entertainers.

The convener noted that the maiden edition, held in the previous year, provided a foundation for the expanded 2026 programme, which seeks to deepen cultural awareness, promote emerging talents and strengthen community participation.

He appealed to the Deputy Governor to attend the event and provide the initiative with fatherly guidance and support. He also formally announced the organisation’s decision to appoint Emetu as one of its patrons.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Ariaria International Market, Chief Paul Nmuojiuba, commended the Abia State Government for its ongoing road rehabilitation and infrastructure development efforts in Aba, describing the improvements as beneficial to traders, businesses and residents.

He disclosed that the market leadership had been working to improve the market’s administration, strengthen security and foster a cordial relationship between traders and the state government. He further highlighted efforts to improve the market’s working environment and encourage traders’ participation in civic activities.

In his vote of thanks, the President of the Abia State Markets and Allied Traders Association (ASMATA), Chief A. E. Udeigbo, expressed appreciation to the Deputy Governor for receiving the delegation despite the short notice and acceding to their requests. He reaffirmed the association’s commitment to maintaining a constructive relationship with the Abia State Government.

The delegation presented the Deputy Governor with customised carnival T-shirts and invitation materials as part of the visit.
