The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, has warmly received the representatives of UNI-Africa at the NLC National Secretariat, underscoring the importance of collaboration within the African labour movement. The visit was part of the formal process to inform NLC about the decision of other African unions to host the first-ever UNI-Media, Entertainment and Arts International (UNI-MEI) Conference in Nigeria, a pivotal event aimed at strengthening ties and fostering development in the media and creative industries across Africa.


The UNI-Africa delegation, led by the newly elected Women President, Comrade Pauline Sawadogo, and the Regional Women Coordinator, Comrade Leocadie Bodjouo, conveyed the support of their affiliates for Nigeria’s hosting of the historic conference. Their visit to the NLC President emphasized the crucial role the congress will play in ensuring the success of the conference, which promises to advance dialogue and cooperation among media, entertainment, and arts stakeholders from across the continent.
In his response, Comrade Joe Ajaero expressed his full support for the hosting of the UNI-MEI Conference in Nigeria, highlighting the significance of the event for both Nigerian and African workers. He commended the leadership of the Radio, Television, Theatre, and Arts Workers Union (RATTAWU) for their active involvement in UNI-Africa initiatives, noting how their strong participation in the regional union has contributed to this landmark achievement.


He assured the UNI-Africa representatives that NLC would offer all necessary support to ensure that the conference would be a resounding success, further solidifying Nigeria’s leadership in promoting professional excellence within Africa’s media and creative industries.
Earlier, the UNI-Africa delegation were welcomed by RATTAWU President Comrade Prince Emeka Kalu (Magic Fingers), at the RATTAWU Secretariat where they were received warmly. Comrade Kalu, who has been instrumental in strengthening RATTAWU’s engagement with UNI-Africa, expressed his gratitude to UNI-Africa for selecting Nigeria as the host country, acknowledging the confidence placed in the nation’s labour movement.
The occasion was further dignified by the presence of HRH Eze (Engr) Ndukwe and Ugoeze Debby Iko, Nnaka IV of Okon-Aku Ohafia Local Government Area, Abia State, who graced the event with their esteemed presence.
