Ohanaeze Warns 2027 Election Riggers, Vows To Resist Vote Theft

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has warned politicians, political parties and electoral officials against manipulating the 2027 general elections, declaring that Ndigbo will resist attempts to steal their votes or impose leaders against the people’s will.

The apex Igbo sociocultural organisation said no governor, political party, electoral official or political godfather had the right to subvert the people’s mandate, insisting that anyone involved in electoral fraud must face investigation, prosecution and appropriate punishment under the law.

In a statement issued by the organisation’s global leadership, Ohanaeze called on Ndigbo across Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States, as well as Igbo-speaking communities in Delta State, including Anioma, and Rivers State, including Ikwerre communities, to remain vigilant and protect their votes through peaceful, lawful and constitutionally recognised means.

The organisation disclosed that its Imeobi, the highest decision-making organ of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, had approved its proposed Igbo Blueprint for the 2027 elections. The blueprint seeks to promote massive voter participation, political accountability and the rejection of electoral manipulation.

Ohanaeze urged eligible voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), participate actively in the elections and monitor the process through available lawful channels. It also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure transparency and credibility in voting, counting, collation and the declaration of results, with outcomes reflecting the ballots cast.

Invoking the cultural symbolism of the Nzọgbu Nzọgbu spirit and the traditional Amadioha deity, the organisation said the determination of Ndigbo to resist injustice must not be underestimated. It described the symbols as expressions of the people’s courage, collective resolve and refusal to surrender their democratic rights to intimidation or political manipulation.

The organisation, however, urged Ndigbo to channel that resolve into peaceful resistance, lawful action and the defence of electoral integrity.

On the choice of candidates, Ohanaeze called on voters to exercise their consciences and assess candidates based on their records, competence, integrity and commitment to public service.

It warned that non-performing politicians, leaders who had betrayed public trust and candidates who disregarded the collective interests of the people should not expect automatic electoral support on the strength of their political affiliations.

The organisation also called for greater accountability in local government administration, demanding proper investigations into allegations of financial misconduct. It maintained that public funds must serve the people and that anyone found guilty of diverting public resources must face the penalties prescribed by law.

Ohanaeze further urged the National Assembly to strengthen electoral laws, close loopholes that facilitate malpractice and ensure the effective prosecution of electoral offenders.

It called on INEC, security agencies and political parties to discharge their responsibilities impartially and protect voters from intimidation throughout the electoral process.

Reaffirming the organisation’s position, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Deputy President-General, and Professor Chibuikeya Achoakawa, Acting Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, said the organisation would not accept the theft of votes, falsification of results or the imposition of unwanted political leaders.

The organisation maintained that Ndigbo would not surrender their votes, dignity or democratic future, warning that anyone who attempted to steal the people’s mandate must face the full consequences of the law.

Ohanaeze insisted that the outcome of the 2027 elections must reflect the choices of voters and that those responsible for electoral offences must be held accountable.
