NDI-ABAT PRESS RELEASE: April 4th, 2026
The NDIGBO FOR TINUBU 2027 FORUM (NDI-ABAT), a prominent coalition of Igbo sociopolitical organisations, feels a profound urgency to inform His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding critical developments with major implications for the 2027 Presidential elections. Credible sources indicate that former Governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi, has secured a new political party platform, apparently as a contingency amid the ongoing leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

NDI-ABAT alerts that Mr Obi is expected to resign from the ADC by the end of April 2026. Following this, he will likely join the new party in early May 2026, reportedly as its sole presidential candidate for 2027. Intelligence further suggests that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has been advised to remain in the ADC, potentially to contest INEC’s recognition of Senator David Mark’s leadership. The outcome of ongoing Supreme Court appeals, pivotal to the ADC’s leadership, may significantly influence Mr Obi’s political trajectory. Should the judicial rulings not favour Senator Mark, a unified opposition coalition is anticipated to consolidate around Mr Obi’s new platform to challenge President Tinubu’s re-election.
In light of these developments, NDI-ABAT urges President Tinubu to strategically appoint his trusted allies—Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Senator David Umahi, Nyesom Wike, and Dr Bello Matawalle—as the core architects of his 2027 Presidential Campaign Committee. This recommendation aims to safeguard against electoral betrayals reminiscent of the 2015 elections, where certain leaders were implicated in undermining former President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign.
NDI-ABAT affirms its steadfast support for these key leaders: Ribadu (Northeast), Umahi (Southeast), Wike (South-South), and Matawalle (Northwest). Together, they are well-positioned to coordinate with APC governors and fortify the integrity of President Tinubu’s candidacy. The coalition believes that any attempt to weaken the President’s re-election—especially with these trusted figures in place—will fail.
In conclusion, NDI-ABAT appeals to the President to consider these recommendations as the nation approaches the 2027 elections. The stakes extend beyond political ambition; they concern the future stability and prosperity of our nation.
