The proposal by Governor Ahmed Aliyu to create a Community Guards Corps in the state was accepted by the Sokoto State House of Assembly on Wednesday.
This came about as a result of a report that was reviewed by the joint House Committees on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Special Services and Security Matters.
Alhaji Nasiru Adamu (PDP-Goronyo), the chairman of the committee, stated that the executive bill was carefully examined and that 28 recommendations were made as a result.
The bill’s title should be changed to “A bill for a law to establish the Sokoto State Community Guards Corps,” he said. Other recommendations included making provisions for the maintenance of peace, the security of people and their property, and quick action in case of emergency.
Adamu also mentioned the requirement for the Legal Services Department to fix typographical, technical, and drafting issues as well as the addition of a new section pertaining to the amount of officers’ service.
Following the report’s presentation for consideration by Speaker Alhaji Tukur Bala, the motion was unanimously approved by voice vote among the members.
