Supreme Court to hear FG’s appeal against Nnamdi Kanu today

FG files 7 grounds of appeal against Kanu, approaches Court

The Federal Government has filed seven grounds of appeal against the October 13 Court of Appeal judgment which discharged the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu. It asked the Supreme Court to set aside the judgment and restore the charge against the respondent to be tried at the trial court. Court jails Kwara poly student over $9,891 fraud

A Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin on Friday sentenced a 31-year-old student of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Bashiru Azeez, to six months imprisonment over $9,891 fraud. Justice Adebayo Yusuf handed down the sentence while ruling on a fraud case instituted by the Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Bashiru who is from Oyan in the Odo-Otin Local Government Area of Osun State is a student in the Marketing Department of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin. The accused person was charged with one count offense of defrauding a client of $9,891 by the anti-graft agency.…

Abia court remands man for the murder of two

A middle-aged man, Ugochukwu Nwanaji, has been remanded in the Umuahia Custodial Centre, Abia State, over murder charges. Nwanaji was alleged to have beheaded a 65-year-old woman, Mrs. Mercy Chukwu, and a 68-year-old man, Mr. Moses Uyai, on September 14, 2016, and October 10, 2016, respectively. While Chukwu was allegedly killed at Amanato Ezukwu in the Bende LGA of the state, Moses was killed at Otampa in the Isuikwuato LGA. The prosecuting counsel from Zone 9 Police Command, Umuahia, Romanus Eke, pleaded that the defendant is remanded in custody. Nnamdi Kanu’s suit against High Court Chief Judge on secret trial struck out

Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo on Friday in Abuja struck out a suit instituted by the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, against the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court on the secret trial of terrorism charges policy of the court. The suit, which has the Chief Judge, Justice John Tsoho, as sole defendant, was thrown out following its dramatic withdrawal by the Biafra nation agitator. Kanu had dragged the Chief Judge before the court following the adoption of a Practice Direction that directed the trial of terrorism-related charges to be done in camera.…
