A court jails fraudster Adebisi Olalekan, orders forfeiture of N150 million in assets to FG

Adebisi Emmanuel Olalekan, a 23-year-old serial internet fraudster, was convicted by a Federal High Court in Ilorin, Kwara state, to 24 months in prison without the possibility of a fine for acts that touch on cybercrime, such as impersonation and cheating. Following Olalekan's guilty plea to a two-count charge brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission's (EFCC) Ilorin Zonal Directorate, Justice Abimbola Awogboro imposed the punishment on Wednesday. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has recently disclosed a list of 58 former governors who are suspected to have been involved in corrupt activities, such as embezzlement, misappropriation, or laundering, over a period of 25 years. The total amount of money involved is approximately N2.187 trillion, not including properties seized worldwide or those currently under investigation, which amount to billions of Naira. The amount of N2.2 trillion that was stolen is equivalent to the combined budgets of Lagos State and the South-East states for 2024, which total N2.25 trillion and N2.29 trillion, respectively. Tigran Gambaryan, a detained Binance executive, sued Nuhu Ribadu, the NSA, and the EFCC. Gambaryan sued Ribadu and EFCC for fundamental rights violations. The Binance executive requested five reliefs from Justice Inyang Ekwo in his March 18 originating motion filed by his counsel, Olujoke Aliyu of Aluko and Oyebode Law Firm.
