Adebisi Emmanuel Olalekan, a 23-year-old serial internet fraudster, was convicted by a Federal High Court in Ilorin, Kwara state, to 24 months in prison without the possibility of a fine for acts that touch on cybercrime, such as impersonation and cheating. Following Olalekan's guilty plea to a two-count charge brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission's (EFCC) Ilorin Zonal Directorate, Justice Abimbola Awogboro imposed the punishment on Wednesday. 75,436 inmates in prisons, 52,446 awaiting trial – Nigerian Correctional Service

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has disclosed that thousands of inmates in prisons across the country are without trial. Assistant Controller-General, Gimba Dumbulwa made the revelation on Wednesday in Abuja at a conference on decongestion and corrections administration. The official noted that as of May 9, 75,436 inmates are in correctional centres, while 52,446 are awaiting trial inmates. A bill seeking to amend of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) has passed second reading at the senate. The bill sponsored by him Orji Uzor Kalu, senate chief whip, is seeking to make the law more “effective and more humane”.
