UMUNNEOCHI, ABIA STATE — Umunneochi Local Government Area witnessed an unprecedented political gathering over the weekend as Team Bourdex arrived to inaugurate Labour Party Ward Coordinators, drawing a massive crowd of party faithful, stakeholders, youth groups, women, and supporters from across the council area.
The event, which was initially scheduled as the inauguration of Ward Coordinators alongside a reception organised by the OMENKA Youth Movement, quickly transformed into a large-scale political rally as thousands of supporters thronged the venue in a strong demonstration of solidarity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The arrival of the Bourdex convoy brought activities to a temporary halt as enthusiastic supporters lined major roads to welcome the delegation. The atmosphere was further enlivened with a traditional twenty-one-gun salute, colourful cultural displays, masquerade performances, and music celebrating the rich heritage of the Umunneochi people.
Delegations from the four major blocs of Umunneochi—Umuchieze, Nneato, and Isuochi, alongside other communities—joined government appointees, Labour Party leaders, Abia Arise coordinators, youth organisations, women groups, and numerous support groups to receive the team.
Speakers at the event unanimously reaffirmed their confidence in the administration of Governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, describing his leadership as transformational and worthy of continuity beyond 2027. They pledged to intensify grassroots mobilisation to ensure overwhelming victories for the Labour Party across all elective positions during the next general elections.
The high point of the event was the formal inauguration of Labour Party Ward Coordinators for Umunneochi Local Government Area. The coordinators were charged with strengthening party structures at the grassroots, expanding mobilisation efforts across every ward and polling unit, and ensuring effective coordination of party activities in preparation for the 2027 elections.

Addressing the newly inaugurated coordinators, the leader of Team Bourdex stressed the importance of early organisation and sustained grassroots engagement.
“Elections are not won on election day; they are won through months of organisation, discipline, sacrifice and hard work. Every ward must become a command centre, every polling unit must become a fortress, and every vote must count,” he said.
Following the inauguration, the Team Bourdex delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Mayor of Umunneochi Local Government Area, Dr. Jude Uche Onuhanze, where they formally briefed him on the purpose of their visit.
During the meeting, the delegation acknowledged the Mayor’s constitutional role as the Chief Executive and Chief Security Officer of the Local Government and reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful, issue-based political engagement while strengthening the Labour Party’s grassroots structures across the council.
The visit also underscored the party’s resolve to consolidate support for Governor Otti’s administration and ensure the continued growth of the Labour Party in Umunneochi and across Abia North Senatorial District.
The overwhelming turnout, level of organisation, and enthusiastic participation of supporters underscored the growing political momentum of Team Bourdex in Abia North, with many participants expressing optimism that sustained grassroots mobilisation would further strengthen the Labour Party’s electoral fortunes ahead of the 2027 general elections.
