As Igbo women across the South-East conclude the 2025 August Meetings in their various communities, Bishop Prof Emeka Nwankpa, Convener of the South East Mandate for Good Governance (SEMGG), has hailed them for their resilience, unity, and contributions to grassroots development.
In a goodwill message, the respected cleric and philanthropist described the August Meeting as a unique forum where women chart the course for community progress, conflict resolution, and social transformation. He noted that their consistent efforts have led to visible improvements in education, health, infrastructure, and youth empowerment across Igboland.

Joining the women in thanking God for the successful conclusion of this year’s August Meeting, Bishop Nwankpa urged them to intensify their developmental initiatives, stressing that “Igbo women remain indispensable agents of change whose impact is vital for both community and national progress.”
The SEMGG Convener highlighted trailblazing Igbo women who have excelled when given opportunities: Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organisation; Dr Oby Ezekwesili, former World Bank Vice President; Arunma Oteh, former World Bank Treasurer; and the late Prof Dora Akunyili, who left an indelible mark through her leadership at NAFDAC. According to him, “These examples, among countless others, show that Igbo women are capable of delivering excellence, accountability, and global recognition when entrusted with responsibility.”
Bishop Nwankpa also used the occasion to call on governments at all levels, particularly the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to address the glaring lopsidedness in federal appointments. He urged the President to correct this imbalance by appointing more Igbo women into key positions of governance. “Inclusivity is the path to unity. By recognising the capacity of Igbo women and giving them fair representation, Nigeria will tap into an incredible reservoir of leadership and service,” he stated.
He concluded by praying for God’s blessings upon Igbo women everywhere, charging them to remain united, prayerful, and visionary as they continue to nurture families, transform communities, and shape a better Nigeria.
