Bishop Prof. Emeka Nwankpa has officially resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a significant development in Abia State’s evolving political landscape.
The respected cleric and politician, who contested the 2023 governorship election on the platform of the Accord Party, has yet to disclose his next political move, leaving supporters and political observers speculating on his future direction.

Bishop Nwankpa’s resignation from the ADC comes at a time when political realignments are gradually shaping the permutations ahead of future electoral contests. Known for his principled stance and consistent advocacy for good governance, his political decisions have often attracted attention across party lines.
In a letter of resignation dated Friday, 18th April 2026, submitted to and acknowledged by the chairman of ADC in Ward 7 of Isiala Ngwa North, Nwankpa said his resignation took immediate effect.
Although no official reason has been publicly stated for his departure, insiders suggest that the move may not be unconnected to ongoing consultations and strategic considerations regarding his next political engagement. As a prominent voice in Abia politics and a mobiliser with a growing grassroots following, Bishop Nwankpa’s next step is expected to generate considerable interest within and beyond the state.
For now, his resignation signals yet another shift in the dynamic terrain of Nigerian politics, as stakeholders await his next move with keen anticipation.
