A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Chief Chidiebere Okoh, has alleged that Governor Alex Otti is behind the brewing crisis within the party, warning that the development could weaken the APC ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Speaking amid growing tensions within the Abia APC, Okoh accused the governor of allegedly deploying political agents to fuel discord between key figures in the party, particularly Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu.

According to him, the alleged interference is aimed at destabilizing the influence of the two political heavyweights in order to create a fragmented opposition and pave the way for what he described as a “weaker and less coordinated challenger” against the incumbent.

Okoh, a longstanding APC stalwart in the state, expressed concern that the internal wrangling—if not urgently addressed—could erode the party’s chances of reclaiming power in 2027. He urged party leaders and stakeholders to remain vigilant and resist any external manipulation capable of undermining party unity.

He further cautioned against abandoning the principle of merit in favor of zoning arrangements, insisting that the APC must prioritize competence and electoral strength in selecting its flag bearer.

“The focus should be on presenting the strongest possible candidate who can effectively challenge the incumbent and win. Any deviation from this could play into the hands of those who want to see the APC divided and weakened,” Okoh stated.

The APC chieftain emphasized that the party’s internal cohesion would be critical in determining its success at the polls, noting that Abia voters are increasingly demanding credible leadership and clear alternatives.
