Saturday, 7th November 2026, will remain a remarkable and memorable day in the annals of Abam Onyerubi, particularly for indigenes resident in Aba, who converged at the Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic Pavilion to celebrate Abam Day in a colourful mini-carnival, crowned by the historic launch of a ₦1 billion ultra-modern hall project.
The Senatorial Candidate for Abia North Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) immidiate past Member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives in the 8th and 9th National Assembly , Rt. Hon. Uko Ndukwe Nkole, who graced the occasion as a Special Guest of Honour, utilised the platform to engage with the Abam Onyerubi community and formally articulate his senatorial aspiration to represent Abia North Senatorial District and the Peter Obi / Kwankwaso Presidency in the forthcoming elections.

Addressing the gathering, he reaffirmed his commitment to building upon and surpassing, in greater measure, the legislative and developmental accomplishments recorded during his representation in the 8th and 9th National Assembly
In an enthusiastic and reassuring response, the Abam Onyerubi people expressed their overwhelming support for his aspiration, pledging their collective solidarity and reaffirming their resolve that the Abam development project must never be sacrificed on the altar of partisan politics. Their position underscored the importance of collective interest, political pragmatism and the preservation of a common developmental agenda beyond individual political affiliations.
The occasion attracted an impressive assemblage of distinguished personalities, including Honourable Members of the Abia State House of Assembly, led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emeka Emeruwa; traditional rulers; serving and former senators; members of the House of Representatives; and other prominent political and community leaders. Also in attendance were the Chief Launcher, Chief Chijioke James Ume, ably represented by the former Mayor of Arochukwu Local Government Council, Prince Dan Kalu; the Majority Leader, Hon. Uchenna Okoro; the Rector of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba, Engr. Dr. Okoro Christopher; serving Mayors; and numerous other leaders of thought whose presence further elevated the significance of the celebration.

A major highlight of the event was the spectacular display of Abam’s rich cultural heritage, featuring captivating performances by the renowned Abam War Dance Group, Ekpe masquerade, and other indigenous cultural troupes. These performances not only added colour and grandeur to the celebration but also provided a compelling reaffirmation of Abam’s ancestral identity, cultural vitality and enduring communal heritage.
Beyond the festivities, the 2026 Abam Day Celebration served as a significant platform for political engagement, cultural preservation and the reaffirmation of collective commitment to the advancement of Abam Onyerubi.
