Labour Party’s Abia North senatorial candidate, Chief Dr. David Ogba Onuoha Bourdex, MFR, OON, has unveiled a proposed ₦2 billion revolving enterprise financing programme for qualifying businesses and entrepreneurs across the senatorial district if elected in 2027.
Bourdex disclosed the proposal while engaging with youths in Ohafia, where he presented what he described as the “Bourdex Agenda for Abia North”, covering jobs, enterprise development, youth skills, electricity, telecommunications, agriculture, healthcare, infrastructure, security and accountable representation.
According to him, the proposed revolving financing programme is aimed at expanding access to capital for entrepreneurs and supporting businesses across Abia North.
Beyond access to finance, Bourdex said his agenda would include modern technical and vocational training for young people, improved electricity interventions for communities, markets and businesses, as well as better broadband and telecommunications connectivity in underserved areas.
On agriculture, he proposed moving farmers from subsistence production towards processing, value addition and agribusiness, with the aim of creating greater economic opportunities within the district.
He also identified stronger primary healthcare interventions and strategic infrastructure advocacy through legislation, appropriation, oversight and engagement with relevant federal agencies.
Bourdex cautioned against the perception that a senator can personally construct projects or simply decree development.
He said effective representation requires understanding government processes, identifying relevant agencies, pursuing constituency interests through the federal budget, sponsoring legislation and exercising oversight.
He also proposed technology-driven approaches to community security and an accountability platform through which constituents could monitor the activities of their senator.
While speaking on the 2027 election, Bourdex urged Ohafia youths not to support him merely because he is from the area.
He challenged them to examine the records, programmes and capacity of all candidates before making their decisions.
According to him, every polling unit, ward and lawful vote matters, stressing that young people must move beyond political spectatorship and actively participate in the democratic process.
He also urged the youths to reject violence, intimidation and thuggery, stressing that political participation must remain peaceful and lawful.
His message to the youths was summed up in four words:
“Organise. Mobilise. Educate. Participate.”
Bourdex said he was encouraged by the questions and enthusiasm displayed by the youths during the engagement, describing Ohafia and Abia North as communities with enormous human capital and potential.
“The future is before us. The decision belongs to the people. A New Abia North Is Possible,” he said.
