A communique issued at the end of an emergency meeting comprising the Ekenobizi Council of Elders, Women and Youth Leaders, Community Chairmen, and other critical stakeholders, held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Ekenobizi, Umuopara, in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State, has condemned what the stakeholders described as the fraudulent and phantom presentation of Engr. Joseph Nwakwue as the purported “Eze-Elect” of the community.
The stakeholders, who rose from the meeting with one voice, warned that Nwakwue’s alleged actions pose a grave threat to the peace and stability of the community.
In the strongly worded communique signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the Council of Elders, President of the Women’s Wing, President of Ekenobizi Central Youth, Chairmen of Dikeukwu, Azumiri, Umuzam, and Umuohuobiukwu communities, alongside other critical stakeholders, they categorically rejected Nwakwue’s claims and cautioned him to desist from parading himself as the rightful heir to the royal throne of Obizi III.
The stakeholders noted with deep concern that the revered throne became vacant following the transition of HRH Eze Albert A. Uwanamodo, Obizi II of Ekenobizi Autonomous Community, and said the process of filling the stool had culminated in the emergence of Royal Chief, Sir Solomon Kanu, Esq., who was duly and unanimously elected on December 23, 2025.
According to the stakeholders, Sir Solomon Kanu was subsequently presented to the Mayor of Umuahia South Local Government Council as the Eze-Elect and currently serves as the Regent of the community.
A Desperate Attempt To Disrupt Peace
Participants at the emergency meeting described Engr. Joseph Nwakwue as an impostor who is allegedly attempting to throw the peace-loving community into unnecessary chaos.
They alleged that Nwakwue recently went to present himself to the Mayor of Umuahia South Local Government Council with hired individuals, purportedly to present himself as the “Eze-Elect”—an act they described as not only fraudulent but also capable of igniting communal unrest.
“It is laughable that Engr. Nwakwue, who has never been entrusted with even the smallest chieftaincy or any leadership position in Ekenobizi, could suddenly nurse the ambition to leapfrog into the royal throne of Obizi III,” a stakeholder stated.
Another respected elder described the alleged move as “an affront to our customs, norms, laws, and the collective will of the Ekenobizi people.”
A Process Nwakwue Ignored
The stakeholders further revealed that a transparent and democratic process was put in place for the emergence of a successor to the late monarch, running from May 2025 to December 23, 2025.
They alleged that Nwakwue conspicuously failed to participate in the community’s approved stages of the process, only to surface at the Umuahia South Local Government Council a few days ago with what they described as fabricated claims to the throne.
According to the communique, Sir Solomon Kanu, who served as Traditional Prime Minister to the late HRH Eze Albert A. Uwanamodo, Obizi II, from 2016 until the death of the monarch, not only participated fully in the selection process but also subjected himself to the democratic election held on December 23, 2025, where he emerged victorious.
The stakeholders further noted that, even before his death, the late Obizi II had openly tipped Kanu as his preferred successor, describing it as a testament to Sir Kanu’s integrity, service, and deep-rooted connection to the traditions of Ekenobizi.
Letter To Authorities
In a related development, the stakeholders disclosed that a formal letter had been addressed to the Mayor of Umuahia South Local Government Council, with copies sent to the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police.
The letter, titled, “Fraud and Phantom Presentation of Engr. Joseph Nwakwue as Eze-Elect of Ekenobizi Autonomous Community,” was said to be intended to put the relevant security and administrative authorities on notice about what the stakeholders described as Nwakwue’s fraudulent activities.
They said the letter was also aimed at preventing any official recognition that could validate what they termed his “bogus claims.”
A Call For Caution
The Ekenobizi Council of Elders and the entire assembly of stakeholders cautioned Nwakwue to immediately cease and desist from what they described as his “reckless acts.”
They stressed that the community would not stand idly by while, in their words, an impostor attempts to subvert the will of the people and desecrate the sacred stool of Obizi III.
The communique reaffirmed the unwavering support of the stakeholders for Sir Solomon Kanu as the legitimate Regent and Eze-Elect, as well as their collective resolve to protect the peace, unity, and traditional institutions of Ekenobizi Autonomous Community.
