Ahead of the 2027 general elections, a former Chairman of Arochukwu local government area of Abia state, Mazi Chibuike Jonas, who is also a prominent chieftain of the APC in Abia State, is endorsing efforts by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu and other notable APC leaders to garner Southeast support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

Jonas states that Tinubu’s administration has demonstrated a strong commitment to regional development through various initiatives.

He said, “one notable achievement is the establishment of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), which has a regional asset base of $1 billion aimed at enhancing infrastructure development and industrialisation. The approval of a ₦150 billion South-East Investment Company is intended to accelerate industrialisation and promote large-scale agriculture in Abia, Ebonyi, and Enugu States.

“Tinubu’s focus on education and human capital development is also commendable, highlighted by the disbursement of ₦45.6 billion in student loans to beneficiaries in the Southeast. Furthermore, the Compressed Natural Gas initiative is projected to save ₦2 trillion monthly in fuel imports, while the development of the Anambra Gas Basin could position Anambra and Abia as energy hubs.

“Another significant measure is the federal government’s allocation of land for a 10-million-hectare cultivation target under the national food security plan. Collaborations with the U.S., Belarus, and Brazil will enhance value chains for cassava, rice, and palm oil, thereby boosting agriculture and food security”

The former Chairman also argues that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has shown remarkable magnanimity in his approach to national development, particularly in the Southeast region. As the first president to ensure huge and timely allocations to all states in Nigeria, he has set a new standard for equitable resource distribution. This commitment has enabled Ndigbo to experience unprecedented progress, He therefore called on the people of Arochukwu, his LGA, and others to put their eyes to efforts on ground to ensure that there is commensurate development in the local government because the huge allocation to LGAs is to ensure that development gets to the grassroots, which is the core policy focus of Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr President.

He explains that President Tinubu’s decision to hand over the construction of federal roads to the Abia state government underscores his genuine resolve to see the Southeast develop alongside other regions. By empowering state authorities to manage and execute these critical infrastructure projects, he is fostering local ownership and efficiency, paving the way for sustainable growth and improved connectivity throughout the southeast. His policies reflect a dedication to inclusive development and a vision for a stronger, more united Nigeria, where the Southeast is not overlooked.
