Long before Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa was elected to the House of Representatives in 2023, he was already making an impact.
In 2017, he established a foundation that provided food for displaced families at the Gongola IDP Camp in Abuja. In 2018 and 2019, he brought free medical outreaches to Arochukwu and Ohafia through international partners.
No office. No political position. Just service.
Since entering the House, Osonwa has continued to use the floor of Parliament to raise issues affecting his constituents.
He has spoken repeatedly on the Isu boundary crisis, intervened over a widow whose case had stalled at the Ministry, demanded justice for four sons from Idima Abam, defended farmers against a bill affecting palm oil and challenged EEDC over electricity supply in Ohafia, with NERC and TCN officials present.
He has also raised concerns over the Nmuri Bridge and F107 Road, spoken against the abduction of Nigerian schoolchildren and championed the Federal Medical Centre Ohafia Bill, which has passed through committee and is awaiting Third Reading.
Beyond legislation, his constituency interventions have included empowerment programmes across the wards, involving buses, tricycles, motorcycles, sewing machines, grinding machines, freezers, generators and farm-road equipment.
His education interventions include 200 tertiary scholarships awarded through examinations across the wards and another 200 beneficiaries placed on the Federal Student Loan Scheme.
Over 100 youths have received ICT training and laptops, while another 200 were trained and supported in poultry and fisheries. Farmers have received inputs, while medical interventions have reportedly reached over 9,000 people, including 38 free surgeries.
On infrastructure, projects attributed to his intervention include Abia’s first Smart School at Ofali Agwu, Amaekpu; classroom blocks at Abam High School, Ukwa Nkporo and Abia Ohafia; solar boreholes in Umuye Ihechiowa, Ugwuakuma and Okon Aku; Amoba’s first transformer; and solar streetlights across markets in the two local government areas.
Ongoing projects include the Mgbaga Federal High Court Road in Ebem and Ihenta Road.
In the National Assembly, Osonwa also holds key committee responsibilities, including Chairman of the Sub-Committee on Seized, Forfeited and Recovered Assets and Chairman of the Bailout Fund Recovery Committee. He is also a member of the Committee on Finance and Deputy Chairman of the Committee on FCT Judiciary.
Politically, he is aligned with the administration of Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, maintaining a common political direction from the ward to the Government House.
From pre-election philanthropy to parliamentary advocacy, empowerment, infrastructure and committee responsibilities, Osonwa’s supporters point to a record built around service, representation and delivery.
For them, the message is simple: Ibe means business.
