The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has secured an offer of specialised training for up to 5,000 Nigerian police personnel following security cooperation discussions with Italian authorities during his working visit to Italy.

The proposed training will focus on counter-insurgency, intelligence-led operations and tackling terrorism, kidnapping, arms trafficking and other security threats, particularly in rural and forested areas.

The programme is expected to cover tactical operations, cybercrime, digital forensics, explosives detection, financial investigations, asset tracing and anti-extortion techniques. It will also include leadership courses for senior officers and junior commanders.

Disu also proposed a memorandum of understanding covering training, technology transfer and operational procedures, while inviting a Carabinieri assessment team to Abuja to identify Nigeria’s priority security needs.
