Rt. Hon. Obi Aguocha, the Member representing Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has expressed profound appreciation to the leadership and members of the National Assembly following the successful passage of HB 1605, the Bill seeking to establish the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ikwuano, Abia State.

Speaking during plenary on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, Aguocha thanked the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Senators, and Members of the House for their support throughout the legislative process, which culminated in the Senate’s concurrence on July 16, 2026.
The federal lawmaker recalled that the Bill was first introduced on the floor of the House on July 17, 2024, and subsequently progressed through all the required legislative stages before securing the approval of both chambers of the National Assembly.
According to Aguocha, the successful passage of the Bill demonstrates the National Assembly’s commitment to enacting legislation that promotes improved access to public services and drives national development.
He further noted that with the legislative process now completed at the National Assembly, HB 1605 will proceed to the next constitutional stage for Presidential Assent.
If signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the proposed Federal Medical Centre in Ikwuano is expected to significantly improve access to quality healthcare services in Abia State while creating employment opportunities, strengthening medical education and training, and stimulating economic activities across Ikwuano, Umuahia and surrounding communities.
Aguocha also expressed gratitude to his constituents for their unwavering support and active engagement throughout the legislative process, reaffirming his commitment to pursuing additional legislative interventions aimed at strengthening institutions and advancing human capital development within Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South Federal Constituency.
The lawmaker described the milestone as a collective achievement that reflects the power of collaboration and sustained legislative advocacy in delivering meaningful development to the people.
