Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has congratulated the Honourable Minister of Works, Senator David Nweze Umahi, on the occasion of his 63rd birthday anniversary, describing him as a distinguished public servant, accomplished administrator, and a symbol of a new political awakening for Ndigbo.

In a press statement issued on Friday ahead of the celebration scheduled for Saturday, July 25, 2026, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation commended Umahi’s contributions to Nigeria’s infrastructure sector, stating that his leadership at the Federal Ministry of Works has introduced a new dimension to infrastructure development and public service delivery.
The statement, jointly signed by the Deputy President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and the Deputy Secretary General, Professor Chibuikeya Achoakawa, praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Umahi as the first person of Igbo extraction to serve as Nigeria’s Minister of Works since the ministry was established in 1951.
According to Ohanaeze, the appointment represents a historic milestone in Nigeria’s political history and serves as national recognition of the competence, experience, and capacity of Ndigbo to contribute meaningfully to the country’s development.
The organisation noted that Senator Umahi’s transition from Governor of Ebonyi State to the Federal Ministry of Works has positioned him among the leading figures driving the Federal Government’s infrastructure agenda under the Renewed Hope administration.
It further highlighted his advocacy for the increased use of cement technology in road construction, saying the initiative has stimulated nationwide discussions on road durability, sustainability, and value-for-money in public infrastructure projects.
Ohanaeze also commended the minister’s hands-on leadership style, describing his regular inspection of project sites and direct engagement with contractors and engineers as evidence of his commitment to ensuring that federal road projects are executed according to approved standards and delivered within expected timelines.
The organisation observed that the Renewed Hope infrastructure agenda has brought renewed attention to long-standing infrastructure deficits across Nigeria, particularly in the South-East, adding that ongoing federal road rehabilitation and construction projects in the region are gradually addressing decades of neglect.
It maintained that the ongoing projects represent a significant step toward restoring public confidence in equitable national development while improving connectivity, boosting economic activities, and strengthening regional integration.
Describing the minister as a “professor in practice” in infrastructure transformation, Ohanaeze said Umahi’s leadership reflects discipline, technical expertise, innovation, and unwavering dedication to national service.
The group urged the minister to remain focused, humble, and committed to the responsibilities entrusted to him, stressing that history would ultimately judge public office holders by the impact of their service and the legacies they leave behind.
Ohanaeze further declared that the political consciousness of Ndigbo remains anchored on development, inclusion, and national progress, insisting that sustainable infrastructure and good governance should continue to occupy the centre stage of Nigeria’s development agenda.
While celebrating Senator Umahi’s achievements at 63, the organisation also called on Nigerian leaders to embrace unity, responsibility, and constructive engagement in the collective pursuit of greater economic growth and infrastructural transformation across the country.
The apex Igbo body prayed for God’s continued protection, good health, wisdom, strength, and long life for Senator David Umahi as he continues to serve Nigeria.
