Two prominent Abia-born personalities, Ambassador Dr. Osita Offor “De Ultimate Commander” (Ikenga Gburugburu of Ohafia Ancient Kingdom), and former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, have been nominated to receive the prestigious Africa Illustrious Award.

The award organisers, in separate nomination letters signed by Dr. Harris Madueke on behalf of the Africa Illustrious Award, disclosed that the honour is reserved for distinguished Africans who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and outstanding contributions in various sectors of society.

According to the organisers, the Africa Illustrious Award is a revered continental recognition designed to celebrate individuals and organisations that have excelled in leadership, philanthropy, community development, business, academia, technology, education, agriculture, entrepreneurship, and public service across Africa.

The organisers stated that after a rigorous selection process involving seasoned professionals, researchers, a special assessment panel, and public input, both Offor and Ogah emerged as worthy recipients of the Award of Excellence and Special Recognition.

The award body noted that the recognition aligns with its vision of promoting excellence across the African continent and highlighting individuals whose contributions continue to impact society positively.

The prestigious award ceremony is scheduled to hold on June 6, 2026, at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, where the two Abia leaders will be honoured alongside other notable Africans who have distinguished themselves in their respective fields.

The organisers congratulated the award recipients and requested confirmation of their acceptance, alongside the submission of their professional profiles and citations ahead of the event.

The recognition adds to the growing list of honours earned by Ambassador Osita Offor and Dr. Uche Ogah, both of whom have remained influential figures through their contributions to business, philanthropy, community development, and public service.
