In order to address Nigeria’s security concerns, a delegation from the South-West Conference of Speakers paid Governor Seyi Makinde a visit in Ibadan and advocated for the implementation of a multi-level policing system. To offer condolences for the explosion that occurred in Bodija, Ibadan, on January 16, the visit was made.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Olubunmi Adelugba, Speaker of the Ekiti House of Assembly, emphasised the necessity of a change from exclusive to concurrent listing, allowing each state to maintain control over its security. He emphasised the significance of unified laws to address shared issues in the area.
With a focus on regional growth and integration, the conference is actively preparing for a South-West Legislative Summit. Adelugba emphasised the South-West’s historical importance as a model and suggested building train connections across the region to promote development and economic progress.
Adelugba, together with speakers Olamide Oladiji (Ondo), Adewale Egbedu (Osun), and Debo Ogundoyin (Oyo), expressed condolences for the Bodija explosion and offered their sympathies to Governor Makinde and the people of Oyo State. Lawmakers from Lagos and Ogun, as well as principal officers, attended the conference.
